This course meets the California content standards for English grammar and the requirements for the Single Subject Teaching Credential. It is a survey of modern English grammar and covers phonetics, morphology, parts of speech, sentences, phrases and clauses. Students will be given linguistic tools, history and examples of modern usage sufficient to analyze English grammar on their own.
Required Text:
English Grammar Notes, N. Stork, available at A.S. Copy Shop in Hoover Hall.
Grading:
Grading will be calculated on a 500 point scale, with the traditional percentages applying for A (90-100%), B (80-90%), C (70-80%), D (65-70%) and F (less than 65%):
Homework: 240 points
Two Midterm Exams: 160 points
Final Exam 100 points
Policy on Plagiarism: All work must be your own. Violations will result in failure of the class.
Late Work: Extensions of due dates can be granted only in the case of genuine and compelling emergencies beyond the student抯 control. Please let me know of your emergency as soon as possible in order to arrange a new due date.
