Minor in Communication in the Digital Age

The Communication in the Digital Age Minor provides students the theoretical insights and practical skills necessary to thrive in the digital age, characterized by access to digital technologies and the sharing of information. The curriculum teaches the basic skills of digital information retrieval and evaluation; provides insight into contemporary media practices; and explores the intersection of technology, identity, and culture. Completion of this minor means that you can:

  • Employ a broad range of resources and digital information technologies for effective personal and professional communication.
  • Practice effective principles of digital information gathering, evaluation, and synthesis while demonstrating awareness of legal, ethical, and practical issues relating to these practices.
  • Develop reasoned and well-articulated perspectives on contemporary questions related to rights and responsibilities in the digital age, with particular awareness of issues related to equity, intellectual property, intellectual freedom, and the ethical responsibilities of media institutions.

Requirements

Must complete a total of 18 units from the courses listed below.

At least 12 units must be upper division (100-level courses)

At least 6 units must be completed in residence at 无忧短视频.

The minimum aggregate GPA for all coursework required for the minor must be at least 2.0.

Note: Communication Studies majors may double-count one COMM course (4 units) toward the major and the minor.
