Scott Sublett wrote and directed the feature 鈥淕eneric Thriller,鈥 starring Academy Award-winner Shirley Jones, and the satire 鈥淏ye-Bye Bin Laden,鈥 named 鈥淏est Feature鈥 at the South Beach Animation Festival. His stage musical 鈥淪tealing Freedom,鈥 the story of Civil War hero Robert Smalls, was presented at the A.R.T./NY Theatre by Amas Musical Theatre in 2017 and 2018. The stage version of 鈥淏ye-Bye Bin Laden鈥 was named 鈥渙ne the top five premieres of 2004鈥 by 鈥淭he San Francisco Bay Guardian.鈥 His verbatim theatre piece 鈥淭he Mothers,鈥 about Mormon moms of queer kids, was selected for the An Other Theatre Company New Play Festival in April of 2023, and his play 鈥1920,鈥 about the sexually complicated marriage of Eleanor and Franklin Roosevelt, was selected for the 2024 Theatre Resources Unlimited TRU Reading Series. He is currently developing a new show, 鈥淗arry!鈥 The Royal Musical Comedy. Scott鈥檚 book 鈥淪creenwriting for Neurotics鈥 was published by University of Iowa Press in 2014. It is still in print and subsequently was published in Chinese translation. He has numerous indie feature film producing credits, and holds an MFA in screenwriting from UCLA, a BS in radio/TV/film from Northwestern University. He is currently a tenured Professor of screenwriting, playwriting and film studies at San Jose State University in San Jose, CA, but Scott teaches remotely from his home on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.
